Boston Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez rolled his ankle while rounding second base after hitting a double during the third inning in Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday night.

Martinez walked off the injury and eventually waved away team trainers. But following Boston's 8-4 victory he admitted his right ankle is sore.

"I don't know man, every time it rains the bag is moist," Martinez told Chris Villani of WEEI. "It's sore, it was sore right after but this is the World Series. You've got to play through some stuff in this game."

Prior to Game 1 rain pelted Fenway Park, threatening to postpone the first pitch.

After slipping on the bag with his left foot, Martinez's ankle rolled on his next stride as he fell and had to scramble back to second base to avoid being tagged out. He wasn't seriously injured, but still had to battle through soreness throughout the game.

When the series turns to Dodger Stadium for three games starting with Game 3, the Red Sox will have to play Martinez in the field to keep his bat in the lineup under National League rules.
