Report: Mets seriously considering Syndergaard deals as trade market grows
The market for Noah Syndergaard is heating up.
At least six teams are possible trade partners as the New York Mets seriously consider dealing the right-hander, according to Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports.
One of the teams reportedly interested in Syndergaard is the San Diego Padres, who targeted the pitcher prior to this past season's non-waiver trade deadline.
In order for the Mets to make a deal for the one-time All-Star, trade offers would need to be "pretty lopsided," according to Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon, and established major-league players would need to be involved instead of prospects, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
The front office of new Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen is already exploring free-agent starters to replace Syndergaard if he is traded, sources told Andy Martino of SNY earlier this week.
Syndergaard started 25 games for New York in 2018, posting a 13-4 record and striking out 155 in 154 1/3 innings. He's projected to earn $5.9 million in 2019 through arbitration and isn't eligible for free agency until 2022.
