The Pittsburgh Pirates agreed to terms with outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall on a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday.
Chisenhall will reportedly earn $2.75 million, a source told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
That total can increase substantially depending on playing time. Chisenhall will reportedly earn $250,000 for reaching 250 plate appearances and another $250K for every 50 additional plate appearances up to 400, and $500,000 for reaching 450 plate appearances and another $500K for every 50 additional plate appearances up to 600, Rosenthal adds.
Chisenhall will have an opportunity to start early in the season, as right fielder Gregory Polanco's expected to miss time as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery.
Though Chisenhall's served primarily as an outfielder for the Cleveland Indians since 2015, he came up as a third baseman and has played 341 games at the hot corner through his eight major-league seasons.
The 30-year-old appeared in only 29 games in 2018 due to a nagging calf injury. Despite a number of physical ailments, Chisenhall hit well over the last three seasons, batting .291/.347/.468 with 21 home runs and 48 doubles over 237 games.
