Athletics agree to 1-year deal with Herrmann

The Oakland Athletics agreed to a one-year contract with catcher Chris Herrmann on Tuesday.

The deal will reportedly pay Herrmann $1 million and includes incentive clauses, according to Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports.

Herrmann became a free agent when he was non-tendered by the Houston Astros nearly a month after they claimed him from the Seattle Mariners.

Herrmann, who also has experience as an outfielder, is about to begin his eighth major-league season. He's primarily found work as a backup, appearing in 340 games with three teams, although he did play in 106 contests for Arizona in 2017.

The 31-year-old appeared in 36 games with Seattle last season, hitting .237/.322/.421 with two homers and seven RBIs.
