Machado criticizes Orioles: 'They didn't show me a little bit of love'
Manny Machado is officially a member of the San Diego Padres, but the superstar infielder still feels jilted by the club that drafted him third overall in 2010.
The Baltimore Orioles traded Machado to the Los Angeles Dodgers in his final year of team control this past July, landing five players in exchange including outfield prospect Yusniel Diaz.
"The Dodgers last year, they showed me some love," Machado told Stephanie Apstein of Sports Illustrated. "The Orioles drafted me. I did a lot for that community, I did a lot for the state, and they didn't show me a little bit of love. It is what it is.
"But going over to L.A., L.A. giving up a lot of prospects for me, that kind of shows you what I meant to them, which is amazing."
Machado signed a 10-year, $300-million deal with the Padres last week. The 26-year-old will move back to third base for San Diego after returning to his natural position of shortstop during the final year of his previous contract.
The four-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner has finished in the top five of American League MVP voting on two separate occasions and owns an .822 OPS over 926 career games.
