Report: Nationals' offer to Harper deferred payments until he turned 60

The Washington Nationals' offer to Bryce Harper would've seen the six-time All-Star receiving payments well into his retirement.

Known for offering deferred payments to players, the Nationals' reported 10-year, $300-million proposal included $100 million in deferred money that would've paid the 26-year-old until he was 60, according to Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post. If accepted, Harper would've received his last payment around 2052.

Harper's reported 13-year, $330-million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies contains no deferred payments.

Nationals ace Max Scherzer received $105 million in deferred payments when he inked a seven-year, $210-million deal in 2015. Those payments will come over the course of seven years following the expiration of his contract.
