Report: Blue Jays, Daniel Hudson agree to 1-year, $1.5M deal

The Toronto Blue Jays have addressed their ailing bullpen by agreeing to a one-year deal with right-hander Daniel Hudson, sources told Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.

Hudson will reportedly earn $1.5 million in 2019, and can earn an additional $1.5 million in bonuses, according to Davidi.

Hudson's signing follows news of John Axford's release on Saturday after the right-hander sustained an elbow injury. The Blue Jays are also dealing with injuries to Ryan Tepera and David Phelps.

Hudson, 32, spent the 2018 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, posting a 4.11 ERA and 4.38 FIP in 46 innings pitched. Prominently featuring a 96-mph fastball and 87-mph slider, Hudson also mixes in a changeup. Since being converted to a full-time reliever by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2014, Hudson has authored a 4.49 ERA, 3.94 FIP, and 1.37 WHIP.

Earlier in spring, Hudson had agreed to a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Angels, posting a 6.75 ERA over 6 2/3 innings prior to his release.
