With several New York Yankees players already sidelined due to injury, slugger Luke Voit took exception to Detroit Tigers reliever Joe Jimenez plunking him on the hands in the eighth inning Tuesday.

"It's the second time I've been hit in that area this year," Voit told Brendan Kuty of NJ.com postgame after saying he was "pissed off" about getting beaned with a 96-mph fastball.

"And I get it, they're trying to pitch up and in. Especially with all the injuries going around, it's frustrating because I could have been the guy that's No. 7 on the (injured) list. I get it. He's not trying to do it on purpose but you never know what can happen. It's just frustrating."

A pitch struck Voit's left arm in the Yankees' Opening Day game against the Baltimore Orioles.

In the subsequent at-bat Tuesday, Gleyber Torres hit a one-out line drive directly into the glove of Jimenez, who raced to first base and doubled up Voit with an emphatic pounce on the bag.

"Yeah, a little bit," Voit responded when asked if Jimenez's antics bothered him.

"I thought it was a good play," the Tigers pitcher said, according to Kuty. "In a great situation, a great spot, tied ballgame, I made that double play. Just enjoyed the play in that situation. I didn't do it with any intentions."

The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the ninth en route to their third victory of the season. The Yankees are 2-3.

"It's a tied ballgame," Jimenez said of hitting Voit. "In that situation, I'm not trying to hit nobody, trust me. If I'm going to hit somebody, it's not going to be on the hand."
