Twins trade Tyler Austin to Giants
The Minnesota Twins have traded first baseman Tyler Austin to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for minor-league outfielder Malique Ziegler, the teams announced Monday.
Austin was designated for assignment by the Twins on Saturday after hitting .250/.400/.500 with one hit and a run scored in two games this season.
Across four big-league campaigns with the Twins and New York Yankees, the 27-year-old owns a .232/.291/.469 slash line with 24 home runs and 67 RBIs.
In San Francisco, he'll add depth to a bench that already includes catcher Erik Kratz and infielders Pablo Sandoval and Yangervis Solarte.
Along with playing first base, Austin has also suited up for 12 MLB games as an outfielder.
In a corresponding move, the Giants designated utility man Connor Joe for assignment.
