Houston Astros reliever Ryan Pressly set a major-league record Friday for consecutive scoreless appearances with a shutdown eighth inning against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
With a clean inning of work, Pressly broke Craig Kimbrel's record of 38 straight scoreless appearances, which the closer set in 2011.
Pressly secured the final out of the inning with an impressive diving effort to nab Rafael Devers at first. Houston eventually won the contest 3-1.

The 30-year-old's streak began on Aug. 15, 2018, against the Colorado Rockies.
Since being acquired from the Minnesota Twins prior to last July's trade deadline, Pressly has allowed just two earned runs with the Astros.
