Cardinals, Cubs to play 2020 series in London
The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs will officially play a two-game series at London Stadium on June 13-14, 2020, the league announced Friday.
The historic NL Central rivals will be the second pair of teams to make the trip to England following the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, who have a series in London scheduled for June 29-30. The AL East rivals will become the first teams in league history to play a game in Europe.
"The Cardinals are excited and honored to be a part of the London series next year," Cardinals chairman CEO William DeWitt Jr. told Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com. "The Cardinals-Cubs rivalry is one of the best in sports, and it will be exciting to bring it to Europe for a new audience to experience. I have no doubt that the passionate sports fans in London will love these games, and we look forward to creating some new Cardinals fans overseas."
London Stadium is a multisport venue originally built for the 2012 Summer Olympics and will be transformed into a 60,000-seat baseball stadium for MLB purposes.
MLB and the City of London signed a two-year agreement in 2018.
