Houston Astros right-hander Justin Verlander is proving there are still new personal milestones for him to reach.
Verlander struck out a career-high 15 batters over seven innings in Wednesday's start against the Milwaukee Brewers. All 15 strikeouts were of the swinging variety, according to MLB Stats.
At 36, Verlander becomes the oldest pitcher to strike out 15 or more in a game since Randy Johnson did so in 2005 when he was a member of the New York Yankees.
Verlander entered the contest with 2,816 career punchouts and had previously struck out 14 batters on four occasions, including twice last season.
His sparkling effort didn't result in a decision, however, as he allowed three solo home runs and left with the game tied at three runs apiece.
