Joe Kelly disputes pitching line: Official scorer 'could be f------ high'
The Los Angeles Dodgers played a sloppy game in Denver against the Colorado Rockies on Friday night, but it was the official game scorer that caught reliever Joe Kelly's ire.
Kelly was charged with three runs (one earned) in one inning of work. It was the five hits credited to his line that he disagreed with.
"I think that if you read outside of the game or if you look at a box score, it’s not going to tell the whole story," Kelly said, according to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times.
Kelly added: "I’m not a believer in me giving up five hits. It is Colorado. And we’re in Denver. Who knows? That guy up there could be f------ high."
The Dodgers right-hander entered the game with none out in the fifth inning after starter Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed five straight hits - including a pair of home runs - to open the frame. The defense behind Kelly made multiple mistakes and was credited with three errors in the inning, two of which were committed by infielder Chris Taylor.
"That fifth inning, for us, obviously, worst inning we’ve played all year," manager Dave Roberts said.
Kelly saw his H/9 jump to 11.5 in the outing. It's the first time he's allowed five hits in an appearance since Aug. 25, 2017.
The Dodgers lost Friday night's game 13-9.
