Sabathia wants front-office gig with Yankees after retirement
New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia isn't looking to abandon baseball after his playing days are over. The veteran southpaw wants a front-office job with the team as soon as possible, according to Brendan Kuty of NJ.com.
He said he's already talked with general manager Brian Cashman about a position, adding he wants to stay around the team and the stadium.
In February, the 38-year-old announced that the 2019 campaign - his 19th major-league season - would be his last. At the time, he said his age and status of his knee were factors behind his decision after signing a one-year, $8-million deal to return to the Bronx for an 11th year.
He wouldn't be the only former player to take a job in the Yankees' front office in recent memory, either. Last December, Carlos Beltran accepted a position as a special advisor to Cashman.
