Yankees' Torres returns to New York for tests after suffering 'core pain'
New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres was removed from Tuesday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles with what the team referred to as "core pain."
Manager Aaron Boone said after the game that the star infielder was returning to New York for further tests and that an update would be available Wednesday, according to ESPN.
"Similar sensation that he was having when he came out the other night," Boone said. "So we'll just continue to explore and try and try to get to the bottom of it as best we can, and hopefully have more information for you guys tomorrow."
The 22-year-old Torres initially left Sunday's game with a core issue but played Monday. He recorded two at-bats Tuesday before being replaced by Breyvic Valera.
Torres went 0-for-5 as a designated hitter Monday but the club thought he was ready to play Tuesday.
"Well, when I DH'd him (on Monday), we thought he was through it and good to go," Boone said. "The DH wasn't about easing him back, it was more picking that day and kind of our alignment and everything. And even when I saw him this morning, he felt good and really wanted to play the field. So we'll just continue to see what it is the best we can."
A stint on the injured list for Torres hasn't been ruled out.
He's batting .282/.349/.508 with 23 home runs in 104 games in his second major-league season.
