Report: Mets name Terry Collins senior advisor for player personnel

After retiring from his role as New York Mets skipper following the 2017 season and becoming special assistant to the general manager, Terry Collins is being reassigned to a new gig as senior advisor for player personnel, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Collins spent seven seasons as the Mets' bench boss, leading the team to one pennant and retiring with a 551-583 record. The 70-year-old also managed the Houston Astros and Anaheim Angels from 1994-99.

The front-office shuffle comes in the midst of what's been an underwhelming season for the new-look Mets, leading some to believe skipper Mickey Callaway's job isn't safe. General manager Brodie Van Wagenen stated in late June that Callaway's job was secure "for the foreseeable future" after the manager got into a verbal altercation with a reporter in the clubhouse.

Callaway, currently in his second season as New York's manager, owns a 151-155 record since leaving his role as the Cleveland Indians' pitching coach.
