Garrett Richards to make Padres debut Monday vs. Brewers
The San Diego Padres will finally get one of their notable offseason additions onto the mound Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers, as right-hander Garrett Richards will make his club debut after undergoing Tommy John surgery 15 months ago.
Richards and the Padres agreed on a two-year, $15.5-million contract this past winter while the 31-year-old was still recovering from a torn ulnar collateral ligament suffered while pitching for the Los Angeles Angels.
He made five rehab appearances in the Padres' minor-league system, allowing 11 runs on 12 hits and 11 walks over 9 1/3 innings.
Prior to suffering the UCL injury, Richards had authored a 3.66 ERA over 76 1/3 innings in 2018. Over his eight-year career, Richards owns a 3.54 ERA and 3.62 FIP over 170 contests (115 starts) - all with the Angels.
