Major League Baseball has a new single-season strikeout record for the 12th straight season.

New York Yankees lefty Stephen Tarpley's punchout of Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Willy Adames was the 41,208th of the 2019 campaign, breaking the previous mark set in 2018.

Entering Tuesday's action, 151 different players had recorded at least 100 strikeouts, with Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. (188) and Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez (186) leading the league.

The all-time record for the number of players to strike out 100-plus times in a single season is 153, which was also set in 2018.

This season has featured batters taking an all-or-nothing approach seemingly more than ever, as the league's single-season record for home runs was broken two weeks ago.
