Salazar outrighted by Indians, elects free agency
The Cleveland Indians outrighted former All-Star pitcher Danny Salazar off their 40-man roster after reinstating him from the 60-day injured list, the team announced Monday.
Salazar elected free agency.
The 29-year-old broke out in 2015 and made his only All-Star appearance the following year as part of a deep rotation on the Indians' pennant-winning team. But injuries began to hit him hard in 2017, when he made just 23 appearances and was bumped to the bullpen. He then missed all of 2018 because of a shoulder injury.
Salazar finally made it back to the majors on Aug. 1, 2019, but left that start after just four innings with what became a season-ending right groin strain.
Over his six-year career with the Indians, Salazar amassed a 38-34 record with a 3.82 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 688 strikeouts. He also made four postseason appearances, including a start in the 2013 AL wild-card game.
Salazar made $4.5 million in 2019, his third year of arbitration eligibility.
Cleveland also outrighted pitchers Cody Anderson, A.J. Cole, and Tyler Olson off its 40-man roster Monday. They also elected free agency.
