The Oakland Athletics traded right-handed pitcher Jharel Cotton to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations, the team announced Saturday.
Cotton was designated for assignment earlier this week in order to make room on the A's 40-man roster.
The 27-year-old missed the entire 2018 season and much of 2019 recovering from Tommy John surgery. Cotton owns a 4.95 ERA and 5.32 FIP through 158 1/3 innings at the major-league level.
Oakland acquired Cotton during the 2016 season in a blockbuster that sent veteran lefty Rich Hill and outfielder Josh Reddick to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
