Blue Jays, Shoemaker avoid arbitration with deal reportedly worth $4.2M
The Toronto Blue Jays and Matt Shoemaker avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract, the team announced Friday.
Shoemaker's deal is worth $4.2 million, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
The 33-year-old right-hander was heading into his fourth and final year of arbitration eligibility and had been projected to earn $3.8 million in 2020, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
He was impressive early in 2019 before suffering an ACL injury that required surgery. Over 28 2/3 innings to begin the season, Shoemaker authored a 1.57 ERA and a 3.95 FIP.
Shoemaker has struggled with various ailments dating back to his time with the Los Angeles Angels. He's thrown just 137 1/3 innings since the start of 2017 and was non-tendered by the Angels after the 2018 campaign.
Last winter, Shoemaker landed a one-year, $3.5-million contract with the Jays.
