Jerry Seinfeld not interested in buying Mets
Jerry Seinfeld won't throw his hat in the ring for ownership of the New York Mets.
The comedian was asked by TMZ Sports if he'd be interested in buying his favorite baseball team, and he made it clear that he's happy just being a fan.
"No. The highest level of sports appreciation, particularly baseball, is a hotdog, a beer, and a seat," Seinfeld said. "There's nothing higher. That's the pinnacle. ... People think that owning the team is more fun; it's actually less fun."
Billionaire hedge fund operator Steve Cohen informed Mets CEO Fred Wilpon and COO Jeff Wilpon in February that he was backing out of a potential bid to acquire an 80% stake in the franchise. Retired New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez emerged as a possible suitor to buy the team, although his bid is reportedly considered a long shot.
