A's minor-league manager Garrison on ventilator due to COVID-19

Longtime Oakland Athletics minor-league coach/manager Webster Garrison is battling COVID-19 and has been placed on a ventilator in Louisiana, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

When the A's learned Garrison had been diagnosed with coronavirus, they informed minor-league staff and players, though it's believed Garrison became infected after leaving the club's minor-league complex. The staff and players have all been quarantined for the past two weeks.

Garrison, 54, has been coaching in the Athletics' minor-league system since 1999, and served as manager of the Stockton Ports in 2019. He was assigned to manage one of Oakland's rookie-league teams for the 2020 campaign.

Prior to his coaching career, Garrison was a second-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 1983. He never reached the majors with Toronto, but eventually appeared in 10 games for the Athletics during the 1996 season.
