King Felix eyeing major milestones before retirement
Atlanta Braves right-hander Felix Hernandez is looking to reach a pair of significant career milestones before retiring from Major League Baseball.
Hernandez said Tuesday that he wants to win 200 games and register 3,000 strikeouts.
Hernandez, 34, signed a minor-league deal with the Braves this past offseason after spending 15 seasons with the Seattle Mariners.
King Felix owns a career record of 169-136 with a 3.42 ERA, 1.206 WHIP, and 2,524 total strikeouts. The six-time All-Star would require multiple big-league seasons to reach his goals, and his recent output hasn't been encouraging.
Since 2016, Hernandez is 26-35 with a 4.89 ERA and 382 strikeouts over 85 games.
However, his spring training numbers with the Braves were promising. In four Grapefruit League starts, he was 1-1 with a 1.98 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings.
