The Marlins already have a deal in place with Meyer, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. Financial terms aren't yet known, but the deal will be for slightly below the No. 3 pick's slot value, Heyman adds. Completion of the agreement is pending a physical.
Meyer, a consensus preseason All-American this past winter, led the Golden Gophers with 46 strikeouts during the abbreviated 2020 NCAA season. As a sophomore, his 2.11 ERA ranked second in the Big Ten. Meyer also made occasional appearances in the outfield for Minnesota.
Meyer is the highest Golden Gophers selection in the draft since Hall of Famer Paul Molitor went third overall to the Milwaukee Brewers in 1977, according to Betsy Helfand of the Pioneer Press.
