Report: Phillies expect Dominguez to undergo Tommy John

Philadelphia Phillies reliever Seranthony Dominguez is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic.

Doctors recommended the surgery in March but Dominguez was stuck at his home in the Dominican Republic due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The hard-throwing right-hander was able to return to the team Thursday and is now expected to undergo the surgery as early as this month in Florida.

Dominguez hasn't pitched in a regular-season game since June 5 due to an injured ulnar collateral ligament. The reliever previously tried to rest and rehabilitate the injury without surgery, pitching two perfect innings this spring with a pair of strikeouts.

The 25-year-old had a breakout debut campaign in 2018, authoring a 2.95 ERA and 2.85 FIP over 58 innings while collecting 16 saves for the Phillies.
