McGwire thinks 70th HR ball belongs in Hall of Fame
Former St. Louis Cardinals slugger Mark McGwire would've rather seen his historic 70th home run baseball end up in the National Baseball Hall of Fame than in the hands of a collector.
Comic book artist Todd McFarlane purchased the ball for just over $3 million in 1998, but it has since plummeted in value.
"It dropped when Barry (Bonds) broke the record ... the bottom line, it should have been put in the Hall of Fame," McGwire told TMZ Sports this week.
McGwire set a single-season record with his 70th home run in 1998. He later admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs during his MLB career, though he has stated he still would've hit 70 homers without steroids.
It currently seems unlikely the ball will be sent to Cooperstown. McFarlane told TMZ Sports he's happy with his purchase and that it would take a "stupid number" for him to part with the memento.
