Brantley calls out MLB for not addressing test delays

Houston Astros outfielder Michael Brantley is one of the many players angered by the issues surrounding Major League Baseball's COVID-19 testing early in summer camp.

Brantley said Wednesday that players are being left in the dark as to why delays in testing are happening and when it will be resolved.

"I want to hear more information about it," Brantley told Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle. "Since we started this thing, I haven't heard much from (commissioner Rob Manfred) or from that side. I know that we had to iron out some kinks together, but at the same time, all the players are kind of saying the same thing: We need clarity. And once we get clarity, I think we'll feel better about this.

"I know that a lot of players are out here and put at risk at times, but we're doing everything we can in our power to not put each other at risk and doing the right things. But for a test result, I know for me personally, when I get my test back that I'm negative, I feel much better being around the locker room, being around the guys, even though I am keeping my social distancing."

The Astros were one of several teams forced to cancel Monday's workouts after test results didn't arrive. Though the team practiced Wednesday at Minute Maid Park, star third baseman Alex Bregman was forced to stay away because his test results haven't shown up.

Astros manager Dusty Baker is slightly worried that the issues will impact the regular season once it begins in two weeks.

"Probably every organization feels that at this point," Baker said. "This is a work in progress. We realize that, too. Is it frustrating? Yes. Does it help to complain? Probably no.

"And I'm hoping that we get this straight before this rears its ugly head during the season and a guy can't play. We still have a couple weeks to get this straight, and I'm hoping that's sooner rather than later."
