Blue Jays place Giles on IL with forearm strain
The Toronto Blue Jays placed closer Ken Giles on the 10-day injured list with a right forearm strain, the team announced Monday.
Giles underwent an MRI earlier in the day that confirmed the injury. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined.
"I'm not only concerned for the team, but for Ken Giles, because he's one of my favorite players here," manager Charlie Montoyo told reporters earlier Monday, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
The 29-year-old allowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays while throwing 23 pitches before being pulled due to elbow soreness. Giles walked the final three batters he faced.
Left-hander Ryan Borucki was activated by the Blue Jays in a corresponding roster move, while outfielder Billy McKinney was added to their taxi squad in Borucki's place. The team also reinstated right-hander Wilmer Font from the IL.
Infielder Travis Shaw, meanwhile, was placed on the family medical leave list.
