Phillies off Friday, will return Saturday with doubleheader vs. Jays
The Philadelphia Phillies will not face the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, according to a team announcement. Instead, the two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday.
The Phillies faced the Miami Marlins in a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park last weekend, but multiple Marlins players and staff members tested positive for COVID-19 during the series and afterward.
All of the Phillies' players and staff tested negative for COVID-19 on Wednesday for a second straight day, ESPN's Jeff Passan reports. However, players have been told that any positive tests related to their series against the Marlins would appear between Thursday and Saturday, according to Jayson Stark of The Athletic.
Miami's team outbreak led to the postponement of several games, including the Phillies and New York Yankees' four-game series in Philadelphia.
One clubhouse employee who occupied the visiting team's clubhouse while the Marlins were in Philadelphia tested positive for COVID-19, a source told The Athletic's Meghan Montemurro and Matt Gelb.
