Report: Yankees to recall Frazier on Tuesday
Clint Frazier is getting another shot.
The New York Yankees plan to recall Frazier, the team's former top prospect, from their alternate training site in time for Tuesday's game, sources told Joel Sherman of the New York Post.
Frazier is likely to be the corresponding roster move for infielder Thairo Estrada, who was optioned to the alternate site on Monday; the call up doesn't need to be officially announced until Tuesday as the Yankees have Monday off. However, Frazier appeared to confirm the news through a tweet:
Frazier was considered a key part of the Yankees' future after they acquired him from Cleveland at the 2016 trade deadline. He hasn't been able to gain a permanent place in the lineup, though, shuttling between the Bronx and Scranton since his 2017 debut while battling injuries and inconsistency. A concussion cost him most of 2018.
The 25-year-old got into 69 big-league games last year, slashing .267/.317/.489 with 12 homers, 38 RBIs, and 70 strikeouts. He was optioned to Triple-A in mid-June despite boasting a .843 OPS at the time, and though he returned as a September call-up, he was left off the Yankees' postseason roster.
This call up may represent Frazier's best chance at sticking with the Yankees. Despite a crowded outfield, he'll likely get an opportunity to play every day in the short term after Giancarlo Stanton landed on the injured list over the weekend.
