Report: Verlander hopes to resume throwing next week
It might not be all bad news for Justin Verlander and the Houston Astros after all.
The two-time Cy Young winner, who has been sidelined since July 27 with a right forearm strain, hopes to resume throwing next week, sources told Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
The report comes days after Astros manager Dusty Baker said Verlander "is not progressing as quickly as he'd like to."
Upon being placed on the injured list, a report emerged stating the 37-year-old would be finished for the entire 2020 season. However, Verlander was quick to refute that report on Twitter.
The reigning AL Cy Young winner and eight-time All-Star made the Opening Day start for the Astros against the Seattle Mariners, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Since that victory, Houston is 6-10.
