Grichuk: Bichette could become 'best Blue Jays hitter ever'
Bo Bichette has torn the cover off baseballs since reaching the majors, and Toronto Blue Jays teammate Randal Grichuk believes it'll be sustainable long term.
"I've said it for months, since last year; I think he has a very good chance to be the best Blue Jays hitter ever," Grichuk said about the young shortstop. "And I know that's a bold statement, but with his approach and his swing at such a young age, it's next level."
On Friday night, Bichette became the first shortstop ever to record an extra-base hit and an RBI in seven consecutive games, and that doesn't tell the whole story of his early dominance this season. The 22-year-old is hitting .356/.387/.678 with five homers and four steals across 13 contests.
Bichette already entered the record books shortly after his call-up last year by recording 15 extra-base hits over his first 15 games. He also set a franchise record with an 11-game hit streak to start his big-league career.
The Blue Jays have played primarily on the road this season but made their Buffalo debut Tuesday, kicking off a two-game set against the Miami Marlins. The club is 7-9, 4 1/2 games back of the first-place New York Yankees.
