The New York Yankees lost an important part of their bullpen on Thursday when they placed left-hander Zack Britton on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring, the team announced.
Britton appeared to injure himself while throwing a pitch to Willy Adames in the eighth inning of Wednesday's loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
The 32-year-old owns a 2.00 ERA in 10 appearances and was 8-for-8 in saves while filling in as closer for Aroldis Chapman, who was activated from the COVID-19 IL on Monday.
Prior to Thursday's game against the Rays, the Yankees also optioned utility player Miguel Andujar to the team's alternate training site and recalled pitchers Ben Heller and Miguel Yajure.
