Report: Yankees called Giants regarding Gausman
The New York Yankees have reportedly contacted the San Francisco Giants regarding right-handed starter Kevin Gausman, sources told Andy Martino of SNY.
Gausman, 29, has shown an improved strikeout rate early this year with the Giants, striking out 31.6% of opposing batters through six games. In three of his five starts, Gausman has struck out eight or more. Over 31 innings, the right-hander owns a 4.65 ERA and 3.10 FIP.
The former fourth overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft is on a one-year, $9-million contract, expiring this winter.
The Yankees are currently dealing with several injuries, including lefty James Paxton's recent move to the injured list. In addition to losing a starter, New York also had to place Zack Britton and Tommy Kahnle on the IL.
Entering Tuesday's action, the Yankees had the league's 17th-ranked starting rotation, according to FanGraphs WAR, collectively posting a 4.62 ERA and 4.73 FIP.
