Rays lose 10th pitcher to IL as Beeks suffers season-ending elbow sprain
The Tampa Bay Rays' pitching woes continued to pile up Wednesday as left-hander Jalen Beeks was placed on the 45-day injured list with a left elbow sprain, according to Juan Toribio of MLB.com.
The move ends Beeks' season. It's not yet known if he'll need surgery.
Beeks felt an issue in his elbow while pitching in the ninth inning of the Rays' win in Baltimore on Tuesday. He left the mound with trainers and underwent tests Wednesday morning.
His injury is the latest to befall the Rays' staff as they push for a division title. Beeks is the 10th Rays pitcher currently on the IL and the fifth to be declared out for the season.
