Report: White Sox considering Rangers' Lynn, D-Backs' Ray

The first-place Chicago White Sox are interested in improving their starting rotation ahead of the Aug. 31 trade deadline and are considering Texas Rangers ace Lance Lynn and Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Robbie Ray, reports MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

Additionally, the White Sox might be among the teams looking at Los Angeles Angels right-hander Dylan Bundy, sources told MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

Chicago's rotation is already having a solid campaign, earning the fifth-most WAR in baseball, according to FanGraphs. The White Sox could use a viable fifth starter to add to Lucas Giolito, Dallas Keuchel, Reynaldo Lopez, and Dylan Cease.

Veteran left-hander Gio Gonzalez has made four starts for the White Sox, but has a 5.11 ERA.

Lynn is in the midst of a marvelous campaign with the Rangers, authoring a 4-0 record with a 1.59 ERA in seven starts.

The 33-year-old right-hander has pitched six-plus innings in all but one of his starts this season, throwing 100-plus pitches in each outing.

Lynn, who finished fifth in AL Cy Young voting in 2019, is in the second year of a team-friendly, three-year contract that pays him the pro-rated portion of $10 million this season, and $8 million in 2021.

Ray hasn't pitched well for Arizona this season. In seven starts, he owns a 7.84 ERA and 7.25 FIP in 31 innings.

He's also walked nine hitters per nine innings pitched, and has already allowed nine home runs and thrown six wild pitches.

The Tennessee native is earning the pro-rated portion of $9.43 million this year and is eligible for free agency at the end of the season.

In 2017, Ray finished seventh in NL Cy Young voting and was an All-Star.

Bundy is enjoying a resurgent campaign, posting a 2.58 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings for the Angels. The 27-year-old's 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings are a career best, while his walks and home runs allowed per nine are career lows.
