Report: Rangers discussing potential Gallo deals; Rays, Padres interested
The Texas Rangers might be sellers before Monday's trade deadline.
In addition to reported trade talks involving right-hander Lance Lynn, the Rangers are also having discussions about potential deals for powerful outfielder Joey Gallo, reports ESPN's Jeff Passan.
The Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres are two teams showing interest in Gallo, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The price is high for both players, Passan adds.
Gallo is an all-or-nothing hitter, leading the Rangers in both home runs (seven) and strikeouts (42) this season while posting a .188 batting average and .774 OPS.
The 26-year-old has hit 40-plus home runs in two seasons (2017, 2018), and his .313 isolated power since 2017 ranks second in the majors behind Mike Trout, according to FanGraphs.
Gallo is earning the prorated portion of his $4.4-million salary for this season and is arbitration-eligible in 2021. He won't become a free agent until 2023.
