In a pair of last-minute deadline trades, the Cincinnati Reds acquired outfielder Brian Goodwin from the Los Angeles Angels and reliever Archie Bradley from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Cincinnati traded minor-league left-hander Packy Naughton and a player to be named later to the Angels for Goodwin.

"We wanted to give this team a chance to get (to the playoffs) and see if we can make a run," Reds general manager Nick Krall said, according to Joe Danneman of Fox 19 Cincinnati.

Arizona received utility player Josh VanMeter and outfield prospect Stuart Fairchild for Bradley. The D-Backs also sent cash to Cincinnati.

Bradley adds more bullpen depth to a unit that could use the help. Reds relievers own the fourth-worst ERA (5.48) in the majors this season.

The 28-year-old right-hander has a 4.22 ERA, 2.01 FIP, and 1.50 WHIP with 12 strikeouts and six saves in 10 2/3 innings for Arizona this year. Bradley has another year of arbitration eligibility remaining

Heading to Arizona is Fairchild, the Reds' No. 11 prospect, according to MLB.com. The 24-year-old posted a .794 OPS with 12 homers and 54 RBIs over 460 plate appearances in 2019 split between High-A Daytona and Double-A Chattanooga. He also slashed .353/.405/.471 in the Arizona Fall League.

VanMeter, 25, slashed .237/.327/.408 in 95 games for the Reds last year. He's only appeared in 14 contests this season, going 2-for-38 with three walks and 16 strikeouts.

VanMeter isn't arbitration-eligible until 2023 and won't reach free agency until 2026. He also brings versatility to Arizona; VanMeter's appeared at five defensive positions during his big-league career, including left field, first base, and second base.

In Goodwin, Cincinnati gets another controllable outfielder who hits from the left side. The 29-year-old has two years of arbitration eligibility remaining.

Goodwin, 29, is hitting .242/.330/.463 with four homers and 17 RBIs across 30 games with the Angels this season. He's spent time at all three outfield positions during his career.

The Angels receive Naughton, a 24-year-old southpaw who MLB.com ranks as Cincinnati's No. 14 prospect. Naughton split 2019 between Daytona and Chattanooga, posting a 3.32 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 131 strikeouts and 35 walks over 28 starts.

The player to be named who's heading to the Halos is also a pitcher, a source told Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.

Cincinnati also announced that outfielder Aristides Aquino was recalled from the team's alternate training site, while right-hander Joel Kuhnel was optioned.

The Angels recalled infielder Jahmai Jones from their alternate site to fill Goodwin's spot on their active roster.
