Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association have reached an agreement to allow Miami Marlins second baseman Isan Diaz to return for the remainder of the season, reports MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
The 24-year-old opted out of the campaign at the beginning of August after a COVID-19 outbreak affected multiple people on the Marlins' traveling party, causing the team to have more than a week's worth of games postponed.
Diaz had a change of heart and is expected to take over second base after the Marlins traded Jonathan Villar to the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. Diaz has been working out on his own, according to Heyman.
The Puerto Rican infielder had two hits and three strikeouts in two games for the Marlins before opting out.
