The Texas Rangers have officially shut down right-hander Corey Kluber for the remainder of the 2020 season, manager Chris Woodward announced Saturday, according to TR Sullivan of MLB.com.

Kluber ultimately threw just one inning for his new club after being acquired in a blockbuster deal this past winter, which sent Delino DeShields Jr. and Emmanuel Clase to the Cleveland Indians.

The 34-year-old suffered a Grade 2 tear of the teres muscle in his shoulder during his Rangers debut in late July, subsequently shutting him down for at least four weeks and placing him on the injured list.

The two-time Cy Young winner has an $18-million team option for 2021 with a $1-million buyout and will hit free agency if Texas refuses to pick up the option.

Reliever Jose Leclerc and outfielder Danny Santana are also done for the year, Woodward added.
