Dodgers place Buehler on IL, recall Kelly
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Walker Buehler on the 10-day injured list with the right-hander experiencing a blister on his throwing hand for the second time in two weeks, the team announced Thursday.
Buehler initially landed on the IL on Aug. 27, retroactive to Aug. 23, with a blister. The 26-year-old returned to throw five strong innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sept. 2. However, his most recent start on Thursday - also against Arizona - was cut short to 2 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out two.
Right-handed reliever Joe Kelly was recalled in a corresponding move, and he will begin serving his five-game suspension.
Kelly, 32, was handed an eight-game ban for throwing at Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros during a contest on July 28. Kelly appealed the decision, which was reduced to five games, but he landed on the IL in the meantime with right shoulder inflammation.
