Nelson Cruz wants to stay with Twins on multi-year contract

If Nelson Cruz gets his way, the Boomstick will stay with the Minnesota Twins for a while longer.

The 40-year-old will hit free agency after the season. Cruz says retirement is apparently not on the table, and re-signing with Minnesota is his top priority.

"I will try in free agency, although my wish is to stay in Minnesota. I would like to secure a multi-year guarantee contract," Cruz said, according to a translation by Z101's Hector Gomez.

The designated hitter has not slowed at the plate, defying father time at every turn. After crushing 41 homers in his first year with the Twins, Cruz is hitting .320/.406/.634 in 2020 with 16 long balls and 32 RBIs in 49 games.

With the Twins on the verge of earning their third postseason berth in four years, Cruz likes what the club is working with and wants to remain a part of its success going forward.

"I would like to stay in Minnesota Twins for several more years," Cruz added, according to Gomez. "There is a lot of talent here. I want to be part of the history of this team. I feel very happy in this organization. There is a great atmosphere. I'm sure great things will come to this city."
