Stanton becomes 1st to start postseason with HRs in 5 straight games
New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is on a historic tear and on Wednesday became the first player to begin a postseason with home runs in five consecutive games, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.
Stanton is one game away from tying Daniel Murphy's all-time playoff record for consecutive contests with a home run, per YES Network's James Smyth. He's the first Yankees player to hit round-trippers in five straight.
The 30-year-old is 7-for-19 with six homers and 13 RBIs through two wild-card series games against the Cleveland Indians and three American League Division Series contests against the Tampa Bay Rays. The designated hitter also has three walks, contributing to a monstrous .368/.435/1.316 slash line.
Murphy set his record in the 2015 postseason during an unbelievable run with the New York Mets. The streak began in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers and ran through Game 4 of the NLCS versus the Chicago Cubs. Over the six outings, Murphy went 13-for-25 with six homers, a pair of doubles, and nine RBIs.
