Snell irate at quick hook before Rays cede Game 6 lead to Dodgers

Facing elimination in Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Rays turned to their ace and Blake Snell did not disappoint.

The left-hander stymied the Los Angeles Dodgers through 5 1/3 innings, allowing two hits while striking out nine.

Snell faced a quick hook, though. After allowing a one-out single to Austin Barnes in the sixth inning, manager Kevin Cash summoned Nick Anderson from the bullpen. The former All-Star seemed irate at the decision:

The controversial call to yank Snell immediately came back to bite the Rays as Anderson surrendered the lead. Barnes advanced to third on a Mookie Betts double and then came around to score on a wild pitch. Betts scored the go-ahead run on a Corey Seager dribbler to first base that was ruled a fielder's choice.

This marks the second time this postseason where Snell has looked livid on a quick hook from Cash. During his Game 6 start against the Houston Astros in the ALCS, Snell was removed in the fifth inning after allowing back-to-back batters to reach with nobody out. Afterward, Snell called the decision "frustrating."

Snell became the eighth pitcher to have multiple World Series starts with nine or more strikeouts in each during a single postseason, according to James Smyth of YES Network. The 2018 AL Cy Young winner joined Bob Gibson and Sandy Koufax, among others, to accomplish the feat and is the first since 2003 to do it.
