The deal is worth $800,000 plus incentives for one season, according to Jon Heyman or MLB Network.
"I'm happy to come back home to the Pacific Northwest and play for the home team," Middleton said in the release.
Middleton, 27, spent the last four seasons with the division-rival Los Angeles Angels, authoring a 3.48 ERA and 4.35 FIP over 95 2/3 innings while notching nine saves. The former third-round pick missed a large portion of the 2018-19 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
In a corresponding move, the Mariners designated outfielder Phillip Ervin for assignment.
