Boston Red Sox coach Jason Varitek tested positive for COVID-19, according to a tweet from his wife Catherine.
The 48-year-old former Red Sox catcher is "doing well for the most part" and is in self-isolation, his wife added.
Boston hired Varitek in November as the game-planning coordinator on Alex Cora's coaching staff.
The position is a new one within the organization that will allow the two-time World Series winner to work with pitchers and catchers while also offering insights into other team aspects.
Varitek previously served as an assistant to the general manager for the Red Sox.
The three-time All-Star spent his entire 15-year playing career with Boston before retiring in 2012.
