The Boston Red Sox are showing strong interest in free-agent utility man Enrique Hernandez, Chris Cotillo of MassLive reports.

Hernandez is coming off a down year at the dish while mainly splitting time between second base and the outfield. The 29-year-old hit .230/.270/.410 with five homers over 48 games.

Hernandez has spent the previous six seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, predominantly in a platoon role. The righty hitter boasts a career 120 wRC+ against left-handed pitching. However, he's recorded an 82 wRC+ versus right-handers.

The Red Sox are looking to address a vacancy at second base this winter, with Michael Chavis currently occupying the role and the oft-injured Dustin Pedroia in limbo.
