Mets acquire Lindor, Carrasco from Indians in 6-player blockbuster
The New York Mets have acquired shortstop Francisco Lindor and right-handed starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco from the Cleveland Indians, the team announced Thursday.
Shortstops Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez, as well as pitching prospect Josh Wolf and outfielder Isaiah Greene, are heading back to Cleveland in exchange.
Lindor, 27, is entering his final year of arbitration eligibility before being able to hit free agency following the 2021 campaign. Currently without a contract, the four-time All-Star is projected to earn between $17.5 and $21.5 million this season, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
The Indians previously offered Lindor an extension worth over $200 million but the Puerto Rican star was seeking more than $300 million, reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
Rosario, 25, is coming off his third full major-league season after being a highly touted prospect in the Mets' farm system. Over 403 career games, Rosario has hit .268/.302/.403 with 32 homers and 50 steals.
The 22-year-old Gimenez is fresh off his first year at the MLB level after previously ranking as a top-100 prospect. The shortstop posted a .732 OPS with three home runs and eight stolen bases over 49 games while splitting time between short, second, and third base.
Wolf, 20, has thrown eight professional innings - all at rookie ball - since being drafted 53rd overall in the 2019 draft. He was ranked as the ninth-best prospect in New York's system, according to MLB Pipeline.
The right-hander allowed three earned runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out 12 during the 2019 minor-league season. Wolf did not pitch professionally last year due to the minor-league season being canceled amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Greene, 19, was the 10th-ranked farmhand in the Mets' system. He's yet to play professionally since being drafted 69th overall last year.
