Orioles announce broadcasting crew without Gary Thorne

The Baltimore Orioles will have some new voices in the broadcast booth for the 2021 season.

The upcoming campaign will be the Orioles' first without Gary Thorne as the play-by-play man in over a decade.

Baltimore's broadcast team will now consist of Geoff Arnold, Kevin Brown, Scott Garceau, Brett Hollander, Rob Long, Ben McDonald, Melanie Newman, and Jim Palmer.

Thorne, 72, won multiple Emmy Awards for sportscasting before joining the Orioles' broadcast team prior to the 2007 season. He'd previously been a broadcaster for the New York Mets and Chicago White Sox, as well as the NHL's New Jersey Devils.

Thorne had multiple memorable moments throughout his Orioles career. Most recently, he went somewhat viral during the 2019 season for his reactions to New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres dominating the O's.

While he's unsure of what's next, Thorne isn't ready to retire.

"I don't think I'll ever retire," Thorne recently told Dan Connolly of The Athletic. "I don't think I'll ever say I'm done. I'm always willing to look at ideas and opportunities. And if something, whenever, if I'm 110 years old and something comes along, like being a disc jockey again and playing top 40 music, I'll do it."
